Lullaby of the Nymphs (Magicicada Brood X)

“Lullaby of the Nymphs” is an excerpt from a song that lasts 17 years, sung by the Earth to the Magicicada Brood X nymphs. I imagined turgid xylem flows and a dark web of recursive thought, nestled within each other, recursively. This song is, in timbre and form, an inversion of the sonic display of the adult insects, yet made entirely from their vibrations.

“Lullaby of the Nymphs” is my contribution to a ridiculously large anthology. 130 pieces totaling 15 hours are spread over four releases. And each track was made from cicada sounds. Cicada 17 Requiem Brood was released on Camembert Électrique, France.
