Included in anthology The Next Station. August 2016.
The Next Station is a sound map of a subway system. “As well as documenting the sounds of the London Underground, by remixing and reimagining every sound it creates an alternative sound world based on the experience and memory of the iconic Tube.”
My contribution “Trembling the Manifold” was created entirely from a field recording of Willesden Junction, London. As a train pulls into the station, wheels vibrate steel rails, and the resulting resonance sounds out the environs. Short moments of pitched sonority were layered to create sustained tone-clusters, in the manner of drone metal. The result is a temporal and timbral extension to the original, enhancing innate characteristics of the recording that would otherwise pass unnoticed.
You can listen over on AudioBoom.
