Performance Technology 2

Location

Digital Media Research Centre (DMARC), University of Limerick. Fall term 2015.

Description

I was lecturer for the fourth year module “Performance Technology 2”, responsible for both lectures and practical laboratories, as well as maintaining the electronics room and related administrative duties.

In this module, students learn to organize and execute a successful artistic collaboration, program real-time and distributed software for audio and video, implement real-time digital signal processing algorithms and environments, and produce work reflecting current practices in real-time video and audio production. In addition they discuss artistic, philosophical, and aesthetic values in current practice.

The term project has students building their own Digital Musical Instrument (DMI), based on the Arduino microprocessor. Then they perform with this in an ensemble… always a challenge!
