Realtime Audio and Video

Digital Media Research Centre (DMARC), University of Limerick. Autumn term 2017.

This module is part of the newly developed Masters in Art and Technology. Students implement real-time processing systems for audio, video, and other media, using Max 7. Topics include control systems (MIDI, OSC, CV, serial), chaos algorithms, stochastics, and sonification.

The conceptual background includes discussions of media as energy and data flow, cybernetics, and telematics. Various examples from the history of digital media art are presented for analysis. By the end of the module, students will understand common terminology and current practices in real-time systems.
