Description

After many years as lecturer and a three-year term as Course Director, I have now earned a sabbatical year from the University of Limerick. Though I will miss the students I am happy to have new adventures. In fact I have a very busy schedule of travel planned, including:

• June-July 2026: Six weeks in Canada including four weeks at Western University, London, Ontario. There I will develop two projects. The first has a media archeology focus, investigating hypertext research that occurred in those environs in the 1990s. The second project is a sound study of the university library, a famous example of brutalist architecture. This is a method of exploring the archive as lived experience.

• August 2026: One week in the sonic lab as visiting composer at the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC), Queen’s University, Belfast. This is preparation for a concert later in the year.

• September 2026: I will present the paper “Liquid listening: environmental composition and the swerve” at The Global Composition 2026, Dieburg, Germany.

• 19 September to 27 October 2026: I will be resident in Finland as visiting researcher at Uniarts Helsinki and Aalto University for the ExoSound project. This also includes a residency in Rovaniemi.

• October 2026: Presentation of the paper “Nature before rights” at Re-Sounding Rights of Nature 2026, Central European Network for Sonic Ecologies, Gdansk, Poland.

• 13 October 2026: Release of the album Present Time on Silent Records.This was mixed and completed during the sabbatical period.

• 4 November 2026: Concert and seminar as visiting composer at the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC), Queen’s University, Belfast.
